Transferring files to and from the Linux systems
There are three basic techniques for transferring files to and
from the Linux computers.
- By network: You can download and upload
files from elsewhere using an SFTP client
to connect to grendel.hendrix.edu.
Suggested graphical clients (all free) are:
If you prefer text mode, most Linux and MacOS computers will have
sftp already installed, and you can use
PuTTY
for Windows.
- By foot: If you have a USB drive with you,
you can plug it in and open the file browser (e.g., selecting
"Home" under the System submenu). From the Go menu, select
"Devices". From there, you can view the contents of the USB drive.
- By mail: While on a Linux computer, you may
e-mail files to yourself via attachment, using your Web Mail account (https://mercury.hendrix.edu).
