Changes to the department's computing facilities in 2010...
We got all new computers for the student Linux stations! The most
up-to-date Ubuntu distribution (Lucid Lynx) was installed on these
computers.
The configuration of computers in the Linux lab was changed: The
aisle closest to the Windows lab now has two working computers. (There
was no increase in the total number of computers - they were just
spread out to use this aisle.)
In May, we got two more of those 24" wide-screen monitors, so now
all 14 computers have a large LCD screen - including five of these
24" wide-screens. What's more, those gigantic 21" CRT screens have
finally been removed.
All computers in the Windows laboratory were changed to run
Windows 7.
The computers in the robotics lab (MCAcx 118) were replaced by the
previous computers from the Linux lab. This represents a dramatic
improvement over the cast-off computers previously in that lab. These
computers now have an IT-managed Windows setup similar to the one
used in MCRey 312.
The servers Ozark and Gilgamesh were both replaced. Now all of our
servers are less than five years old.
