New Members of Pi Mu Epsilon

Thirteen Hendrix students were recently inducted into the Hendrix chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, a national honorary society for mathematics. The new members are:

Mathematics Symposium

Mathematics and Computer Science Department faculty members Bob Eslinger and Dwayne Collins attended the Hendrix-Rhodes-Sewanee Undergraduate Mathematics Symposium at Sewanee, Tennessee, on March 16–17. Majors in the department who gave talks included:

  • Jason Clendenin (senior) — Codewords and Adjacency Matrices for Graphs [Advisor: Dr. Collins]

NCUR 1999

Mathematics and Computer Science Department falculty members Ali Kooshesh and David Sutherland attended NCUR '99 in Rochester, New York on March 7–10. Dr. Kooshesh coordinated the trip for 42 Hendrix students and 5 faculty members. Majors in the department who gave talks included:

Mathematics Conference

Mathematics & Computer Science Department faculty members Ze'ev Barel, Lars Seme and David Sutherland attended the Annual Meeting of The Mathematical Association of America Oklahoma-Arkansas Section at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK on March 26 and 27. Dr. Barel spoke on Some History of Decimal Fractions. Mr. Seme and Dr. Sutherland presided at undergraduate paper sessions.

Mathematics Conference

Ze'ev Barel, Dwayne Collins, Bob Eslinger, Ali Kooshesh, David Sutherland and Lars Seme attended the Oklahoma-Arkansas Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America on March 27-28 at UALR. Ze'ev Barel gave a presentation entitled Levi ben Gershon, A Medieval Jewish Mathematician. Bob Eslinger presided over the luncheon for faculty sponsors of student chapters and Lars Seme presided over a session for undergraduate speakers.
