Eslinger Undergraduate Research Fund in Mathematics & Computer Science
For
more than twenty-five years Dr. Robert C. Eslinger, Fausett Professor of
Mathematics, has exemplified the Hendrix commitment to undergraduate research.
The Robert C. Eslinger Endowed Fund for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics
and Computer Science (The Eslinger Fund) has been established by former students
of Dr. Eslinger on the occasion of his retirement from the Hendrix faculty.
Proceeds from The Eslinger Fund are available to the Department of Mathematics
and Computer Science to support undergraduate research through funding student
and faculty participation at state, regional, and national undergraduate
research conferences and through providing grants to students to develop
undergraduate research projects.
Students who develop an interest in mathematics while at Hendrix and whose
work is of sufficient caliber to merit presentation at state, regional, and
national conferences will be eligible for Eslinger Grants to support their
research. These students will be selected by the faculty of the mathematics
department, and selections will be based on demonstrated capacity for the study
of mathematics and computer science. The students will be known as Eslinger
Scholars, honoring the legacy of Dr. Robert Eslinger. The Eslinger Fund will
provide resources for students to participate in undergraduate research projects
and to travel to national conferences to present original research.
The Eslinger Fund will allow the department of mathematics to continue to
provide exemplary leadership in development of Hendrix College’s
discovery-based, advanced undergraduate research program.
The Eslinger Undergraduate Fund, as outlined here, requires an endowment of
$50,000 to fund Eslinger Grants for mathematics students who wish to participate
in undergraduate research projects and to present their work to peers at
national conferences.
Help create a lasting legacy through your
support of the Eslinger Fund
Please consider supporting Hendrix with a contribution to the Robert C.
Eslinger Undergraduate Fund in Mathematics and Computer Science. This program
will provide a wonderful legacy that honors Dr. Eslinger and allows future
generations of Hendrix students to benefit from the same personal guidance
offered to you that provided such a strong foundation for your professional
accomplishments. Thank you for your consideration of this proposal and for your
support of this effort to honor Dr. Eslinger and to perpetuate his legacy at
Hendrix.
