Cameron wins award at OK-MA MAA meeting
Two Hendrix seniors, Alex Cameron and Colin Williams, presented
talks based on their senior projects at the regional MAA meeting March
31, 2006. Alex Cameron won third place among the undergraduate
papers for his work on The Number of Ring Homomorphisms
Between Finite Rings.
Mathematics contest successes
Hendrix placed one-two among the ten teams competing in the Arkansas
Undergraduate Mathematics Competition held February 25, 2006, on
the Hendrix College campus.
First place was Team Lagrange (Alvin Grissom, Samuel Hwang,
Thomas Przybylinski, Colin Williams) and Team Galois won second
(Alex Cameron, Thomas Christie, Jeremy Crosmer, Greg Varner).
In the prestigious Putnam contest December 3, 2005, junior Jeremy
Crosmer earned the highest score in the Oklahoma-Arkansas region.
Overall, Hendrix won 74th place among 395 U.S. and Canada teams.
Computer science speaker series: 2005-06
Hendrix is hosting three computer science lectures for the 2005-2006
academic year.
- October 7: Introducing computing using pseudocode,
Larry Morell, Arkansas Tech.
- November 16: Memory-persistent precompiled libraries for
interpreted languages, Brandon Willis, Acxiom Corporation.
- March 6: Designing a dynamic middleware library for sensor
networks, James Horey, University of New Mexico (and
Hendrix '03 alum).
Programming Teams Compete
Hendrix College sent two teams to compete in the Mid-Central Regional
ACM Programming Contest on November 7, 2005. One team placed 24th
among the 121 teams competing.
