Home Syllabus Assignments Tests

Starting Wing 101

In this course, we'll use Wing 101, a software development environment that one uses for developing Python program.

In the laboratory

Wing 101 is already installed on the laboratory computers in MCRey 314: Go to the Start menu on the screen's lower left corner, select the All Programs menu, then the Computer Science submenu, and then Wing IDE.

On your computer

Wing 101 can be downloaded at no cost. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

  1. First you will need to ensure that Python 2.6 is installed. Visit this download page. You most likely want to download the Windows x86 MSI Installer or the Mac Installer disk image. Double-click whatever you download and follow the directions.

  2. Now you can download Wing 101. Visit its download page. Again double-click whatever you download and follow the directions.

  3. If you run into troubles, I'll be very happy to help you with getting it to work. If you have a laptop computer, the easiest way by far is to bring your laptop computer by my office.
