Students, faculty and staff:

We know the rumors are flying about the potential spread of H1N1 virus. We have had at least one confirmed case of the flu at Hendrix and the health department is advising that most confirmed flu cases will be H1N1 flu.

A few updates to Friday?s email to students:

* If you have a fever and/or symptoms of the flu, please remember that time, rest, and hydration are the ONLY solutions for the virus at this time. While the Health Center can assist you in determining whether you have a fever, they cannot offer any particular treatment (medicine, etc) other than encouragement to rest and stay hydrated.

* Your RAs are tremendous sources of support on your floor; however, they cannot diagnose your illness. All they can do is to provide you with a thermometer and check in with you later if you?re sick. We will be placing thermometers in the guest bathroom of each residence hall so that you can use the thermometer on your own. We know that you do not want to spread your illness and would ask that if you request the thermometer from you RA instead of using one in the guest bathroom that you use it in the hallway outside the RAs room in order to minimize exposure. We want everyone to stay as healthy as possible.

* Testing your temperature: Unfortunately, knowing that you have a fever only helps you identify the likelihood of flu. If you are feeling ill, please take care of your self.

* If your fever does not go away after 3 days, please seek medical advice.

Thanks again for keeping our campus community healthy. If you have questions, please contact the Health Center by phone.

Take care,

Karla
