Hello Hendrix Faculty, Staff and Students --

Beginning this academic year (2009-2010) a new policy for funding student travel to present research is in effect. This new policy provides guaranteed funding of up to $1000 for each student for his or her FIRST trip to present research at a national, regional, or state meeting, including but not limited to NCUR. The research must first be approved for Odyssey credit in the UR category. This policy replaces the previous one that guaranteed travel money only for those students presenting at NCUR.

This change grew out of discussions held last year by the Committee on Engaged Learning and shared with the faculty. It is the hope and the intention of the Committee on Engaged Learning to make a wider range of opportunities available to students.

The entire policy, as it appears in the new Odyssey Guide, is reproduced below. Please read it carefully. Do not hesitate to contact the Odyssey Office or the CEL if you have questions or concerns about this new policy

New Travel Policy

Beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year, in each of the three funding cycles, the CEL will fund student travel (transportation costs, lodging expenses, registration costs, and a per diem for food) up to $1000 for presentation of undergraduate research at any state, regional, or national meeting that has been deemed worthy by the student?s faculty sponsor, as long as the request is the first such request to come from that student during his or her Hendrix career, and the project has been approved for Undergraduate Research credit by the Odyssey Office. Requests to use this travel money must be submitted on a Funding Request form by the deadline for the appropriate cycle.

Student Group Meeting Request form is to be used for small student group meetings that require minimal setup.

o The Internal User form is for all other events associated with on-campus departments and groups, activities, large meetings, etc.

o The Off-Campus Group Request form is for Off-Campus Groups that would like to schedule an event at Hendrix.

All events that have been previously scheduled through 9/8 before 12pm on the old calendar system, should have converted to the new calendar. However, I encourage you to look at the new calendar to verify your previously scheduled events. The new calendar also includes the new Student Life Technology Center (SLTC) and the available rooms for reservations.

There will be 2 training/Q&A sessions this week:

o Thursday, September 10 @ 3pm in Mills A

o Friday, September 11 @ 2:30pm in Mills B

If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks! :-)
