Greetings, Hendrix!

As Distinguished Scholarships Advisor, I wanted to pass along some good news - several seniors have won national prominence in the last few weeks.

Nathan Thomas was awarded a Watson Fellowship on March 12 in the amount of $25,000 to travel to Australia, Finland, South Africa, and India. He will investigate cultural education in four metropolitan primary schools. The Watson competition this year was especially tough, as they've reduced both the number of colleges allowed to participate as well as the number of fellowships to 40.

We also have two Fulbright awards as of this week: Lauren Bartshe was awarded an English Teaching Assistantship to Germany, and Blake Smith was awarded a Research Grant to pursue a research project in France next year. This year was extremely competitive - there were a record number of applicants (as is to be expected in a down economy).

Please congratulate Nathan, Lauren, and Blake! And many thanks go out to those faculty and staff who labored over letters of recommendation and spent countless hours mentoring students.

Thanks,
Britt
