initiatives; and proposals for the repurposing of Buhler Hall. Details coming soon.

Finally, following up on an issue raised earlier in the year, the Provost reported that the Committee on Enrollment and Financial Aid is waiting for a written proposal from the English Department regarding a recommendation to require the essay portion of standardized entrance tests.

The student representatives offered these issues:

(1) How was it possible for Professor Zhao to leave so close to the beginning of the semester? Provost: It happens. The college has no recourse to force employment.

(2) The Environmental Studies capstone is the equivalent time and work demand as other capstones that actually receive course credit, though it does not. Answer: Other sciences also choose not to give course credit for the capstone seminar. The EVST program happens to already be under review by its faculty.

(3) Students find that Educator fails to provide a shared class experience, is not user-friendly, and has other problems. Provost: At the end of this year, the Educator product will no longer exist. The Committee on Information and Instructional Resources is already tasked with recommending a new tool.

We adjourned.
