Notes to faculty on the AP meeting of April 3, 2008

B.J. Folgeman and Sam Bode were welcomed as new student members of AP.

Faculty meeting minutes were briefly discussed with a section on the sexual harassment handbook policy slated to be clarified before the minutes are circulated for faculty approval.

The Curriculum Proposal to give Hendrix course credit for the Washington Semester will be forwarded to the faculty for their consideration.

David Sutherland and Ann Goldberg were asked to provide a draft proposal for improving the form and process of student evaluations of faculty.

It was announced that the Howard Hughes proposal for a Neuroscience program was not funded, but that the Art Department has obtained a significant grant for a gallery and speakers program.

It was felt that with the expansion of faculty there are enough to not increase a faculty member's load.

Such a release would be before the Board had a chance to see the report. They felt the risk of the report being released to the public was significant and they were concerned about not being able to view it before being asked questions by the public. In view of this, the President and Provost have asked Dr. Chappell (Chair of the Football Committee) to provide as much detail as he can in an executive summary (including the pros and cons) for the faculty next month. A request will be made of the consultants to supply a copy of the text and questions used in the surveys they gave to the students, faculty, administration, and alumni for inclusion in the Football committee report. The Provost expressed his belief that due to delays in collecting the data, the Board may delay the vote on the football question until next fall. This raised the issue of whether a
